How to allow and force standard users to change their password

In this guide, we will show you how to allow and force users to change their password. Standard users (Password Depot credentials) are created manually, meaning that the person creating the accounts must enter the username and initial password for each user. However, many users would like to change their password.

For enhanced usability, we have implemented a feature that enables administrators to mandate a password change for users upon their login.

Allowing vs preventing users from changing their password

Server administrators can decide whether to allow or restrict users from changing their passwords. There are two available options:

  • User may not change password: If this option is activated in the Account options under user properties, users cannot change their password at any time.

  • User must change password at next logon: If this option is activated, users are required to change their password the first time they log in to the server after the option has been enabled. Additionally, they will still be allowed to change their password manually at any time.

How users can manually change their password (applies only to standard users)

Users can manually change their password using the Client by going to Home, connecting to their Enterprise Server with their given password, and clicking the Server account icon:

Select the Security tab und click on Change password…:

Next, users will be asked to enter their old password and set a new one:

Note: Users can manually change their password only if they were created locally. This is not possible when using Integrated Windows Authentication (On-Premises Active Directory) or Entra ID authentication, as the data is always synchronized from Active Directory (AD) or Entra ID, preventing manual changes.
